Tierra Roja Spa

Tierra Roja Spa

At Tierra Roja Spa, the healing power of touch meets the elemental beauty of Gateway.

Red Rock With The Tierra Rojas Spa Logo

For thousands of years, the Indigenous peoples of the Colorado Plateau left their mark upon the red stone of the canyons using red ochre– an iron-rich pigment, the same mineral present in Gateway’s iconic red landscape.

Aloe With The Tiera Rojas Spa Logo

The radiating fingers subtly evoke the forms of native desert plants that flourish in the region’s red earth. This reinforces Tierra Roja’s sense of place.

Canyon With The Tiera Rojas Spa Logo

The thumb and palm represent the winding Dolores River as it curves around the base of The Palisade. Together, they represent the timeless relationship between water and stone – the forces that have shaped the landscape over millions of years.

Our signature experiences draw upon the textures, elements and natural rhythms of Gateway. Each ritual is designed to bring the body back into balance while creating an enduring sense of calm and connection.

FAQ

The Spa at Gateway is a full-service boutique spa built for that kind of reset after a day in the canyons. Its certified therapists offer massages, facials, and body scrubs, and the spa recently reopened after a full renovation. It runs daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. by appointment, so it is easy to book a treatment around a morning UTV tour or an afternoon trail ride. Guests also have two pools open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. for a slower end to the day. Call the spa directly to arrange a time that fits your schedule.

The Spa at Gateway is the boutique spa inside a 72-room red rock resort rather than a stand-alone day spa, which is what makes it a different kind of Colorado spa trip. Treatments are massages, facials and body scrubs from expert, certified therapists, and the spa is fresh from a full makeover. Condé Nast Traveler readers placed the resort #9 among Top Resorts in the Mountain West in 2024, and Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best Awards ranked it #9 among the Top 10 Colorado Resorts in 2021. Book online or call 970-931-2598.

No. Gateway Canyons does not have natural hot springs or mineral pools. What it has is two resort pools, the Kiva Pool beside the lobby and the Palisade Pool, both open 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., with a hot tub and complimentary first-come cabanas at the Palisade. Several Casita categories, including the Signature Stargazer and the Two-Bedroom Unaweep, have a private outdoor hot tub of their own, and every Casita has a stone tile outdoor shower. If soaking in a hot spring is the point of the trip, one of Colorado’s spring-fed resorts is the better booking.

Book online through the spa booking link on this page or call 970-931-2598. The spa runs daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and works by appointment, and the resort asks guests to secure spa times when the room reservation is confirmed rather than waiting until arrival. That matters more here than at a city hotel, because the resort sits an hour from Grand Junction with no second spa down the road, and treatment slots for a given afternoon are finite. Treatments are massages, facials and body scrubs.

The fitness center is open 24 hours with a room key and holds free weights, cardio equipment and a separate area set aside so you can practice yoga on your own. Beyond it, the setting does most of the work: guided canyon hikes through the Adventure Center, two pools open 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., a hot tub at the Palisade Pool, a private deck with a fire pit on every Casita, and very little light pollution over Unaweep Canyon after dark. Wellness activities and stargazing can also be built into a group program.

Gateway Canyons has two pools, the Kiva Pool by the lobby and the Palisade Pool, both open 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., with a hot tub and complimentary first-come cabanas at the Palisade. The Spa at Gateway is the full-service boutique spa at Gateway Canyons Resort & Spa, in Unaweep Canyon in Western Colorado. It reopened after a full makeover and works by appointment, with massages, facials and body scrubs delivered by expert, certified therapists. It is a resort spa rather than a hot-springs destination: the water on property is two pools and a hot tub, not a mineral spring.
