Adventure Center

The Adventure Center at Gateway Canyons will kick your vacation into high gear. Staffed with experienced, adventure loving guides and stocked with everything you need to get started, your only job is to decide what you want to do!

Kayaking

The Dolores River, likened to the Grand Canyon for its beautiful desert setting, is a true Colorado gem and the perfect river for kayakers of all skill levels. The professionals at The Adventure Center offer daily kayaking trips using sit-on-top tandem or single kayaks. Each trip begins with the fundamentals of paddling and river safety and runs two to three hours. Contact the Adventure Center for more information.

Horseback Riding

Located at the heart of the majestic Unaweep Canyon, The Stables at Gateway Canyons provide an authentic introduction to your western horseback riding experience. We offer beginner-riding instruction, guided tours to the base of the Uncompahgre Plateau, and endless views, otherwise known as jaw-dropping horseback journeys. The Stables are available to all Gateway Canyons guests. Contact the Adventure Center to reserve your saddle.

Hiking

Whether heading out with a guide into the vast western landscape or strolling the resort grounds, you’ll find a hiking adventure to suit your interest. Self-guided hiking experiences are charted on adventure maps for guests who prefer a solo trek in the wilderness and backcountry. In the mood for ed? Expert-led tours are offered as half and full-day journeys into the surrounding canyons and high desert Ponderosa Pine forests.

Off Road Tours

Discover the wild lands that surround Gateway Canyons with one of our off-road Jeep, ATV or Pinzgauer tours.  Choose from several, including geology tours, mining tours and more. Need to hone your off-road driving skills? Sign up for a session in our Off-Road driving school.

Mountain Biking

Begin your day with a morning mountain bike tour. Offered every day, these thrilling rides test a variety of skill levels—all supported by our resort guides and adventure vehicles. Though the immediate area currently lacks the singletrack trails popular in Moab and Fruita, Gateway will soon become a mountain bikers’ mecca as the proposed world-class trail system leaps off the pages and into the dirt.

Fishing

Discover all that the wild, pristine rivers of remote western Colorado have to offer with our guided fly-fishing adventures. Unfamiliar with fly-fishing? Our expert guides offer Fly Casting Lessons.

Canyon Air Tours

Sometimes ‘by land’ just isn’t enough. We at Gateway Canyons understand the urge to explore ‘by air.’

Gateway Canyons will arrange a private air tour with the professional, seasoned pilots from Canyon Air Tours, LLC. Strap yourself in and relax as they detail the fascinating geography and the ancient cultures of the area while providing a rare “bird’s eye view.”

Choose from a variety of tours, including guided helicopter skiing near Telluride, fly-fishing on the Roaring Fork River, or a photography expedition in Antelope Canyon. Afterwards, you’ll be flown back to your first-class accommodations and amenities at Gateway Canyons.

You’ll have the option to board air tour flights in Grand Junction Walker Field Airport or at the private airstrip at Gateway Canyons.  Customized trips can also be arranged, with pick-up and return flights anywhere in the country.
